Washington Cowboy Rushing into war for revenge and profit is a favorite act of arrogant dictators and egomaniacs. Acting in contempt of international law is also a characteristic we have seen before and each time we objected with force to preserve the rule of law. This time however, we were the perpetrators. Religion, oil, commerce and vengeance seem to have played a part in the recent overthrow of Iraq. An evil dictator was overthrown, that is certain. Now ask yourself this question; why did the Iraqis continue to shoot our troops after we liberated them? Why did the Iraqi populace not object to the way our troops are being killed and drive off the perpetrators? What about the hypocrisy of establishing a structure of international law and then ignoring it when it restrains us from attacking at will? Were we justified in what we did, or did we blindly follow a “Washington Cowboy”? |
