Sammy's Got a Dell Databases everywhere! Everything from your address and phone number to the most personal facts about health, personal behavior, political affiliations, friends, buying habits, and finances are all on computer memories somewhere beyond your control. Our government collects and stores much of this data in the normal course of being a governing authority. So far, it has been transparent and benign to most of us; no-one has disappeared in the middle of the night for no reason so most people don’t give the possibility of abuse resulting in oppression much thought. While it appears that we are currently okay, the potential for misuse of this vast collection of data is real. Sammy has a Dell and knows how to use it! We must be sure he remembers he works for us and is not our parent; he is our employee. Are the safeguards our lawmakers have established
adequate to the task of restraining Sammy from someday using his Dell
to our detriment? Is there something in the data out there that could
make you become the one that Sammy points at? |
