Friends in Black, White and Red

You met Theaphlias Terrell (“T”) elsewhere in the exhibit. The man pictured here with him is Roland “Red” Williams, who was the instrumentation camera field-shop lead at the Kennedy Space Center.

Theaphlias and I worked there with Red for several years. We became a cohesive team.

Red was born into the southern culture complete with the racial opinions that went with that upbringing. Red was raised a “redneck”.

Red is the man that hand built the camera John Glenn took into space, his intellect is very powerful.

“T” was a Black Panther and NAACP member. He is also an accomplished athlete, engineer and manager.

Red and “T” should hate each other but they don’t. Instead, they became friends, their mutual respect, based on their individual achievements, erasing years of prejudice on both sides.

Prejudice is blind, but familiarity has perfect eyesight, it allows you to see who your friends are.
